Vidyo Introduces HD Multipoint Videoconferencing for LTE, 3G and 4G Networks and Smartphones – Joins ng Connect Program

Mar 24, 2010

CTIA Wireless, Las Vegas – March 24, 2010 — Vidyo®, Inc., today announced VidyoTechnology support for Long Term Evolution (LTE), 3G and 4G broadband networks and smartphones. VidyoTechnology was publicly demonstrated during a keynote presentation at CES in January; part of the first TV-quality multiparty videoconference delivered via a smartphone prototype (Click here to view a video of the demo or read the press release). Vidyo is also participating in demonstrations of its patented next generation architecture delivering HD multipoint videoconferencing over LTE, 3G and 4G networks to carriers and wireless providers.  As part of the company’s commitment to support LTE, Vidyo also announced its participation in the ng Connect Program, a multi-industry initiative which will drive the development of next generation broadband services based on LTE and other ultra high bandwidth technologies.

“Vidyo is successfully delivering  its revolutionary video conferencing platform over desktops, laptops, netbooks and HD room systems via the Internet or any general IP network,” said Ofer Shapiro, Vidyo’s co-founder and CEO.  “Now we’re taking it one step further by extending our highly error resilient Vidyo architecture and offering the first TV-quality multipoint videoconferencing over LTE, 3G and 4G networks.  We believe HD multipoint video conferencing over wireless will see huge demand and are committed to driving the development of next generation broadband services through organizations like ng Connect.”

Propriété intellectuelle de Vidyo

Vidyo is the only company to deliver a purpose-built architecture leveraging H.264 SVC and eliminating a costly MCU as the basis for a video conferencing solution. H.264 SVC is a video compression standard that enables a video stream to be broken into multiple resolutions, quality levels and bit rates. Utilizing this capability and Vidyo´s intellectual property, the VidyoRouter architecture offers unprecedented error resiliency and low latency through eliminating the MCU. The VidyoRouter™ is the first video multipoint solution that can deliver rate matching and continuous presence capabilities without an additional video encode and decode. This unique capability allows for less than half of the end-to-end latency of MCU-based solutions.

“Video conferencing is fast becoming essential as the need for cost-effective, high quality communications services grow.  A growing awareness of the green benefits of video conferencing is driving interest and growth with more workers telecommuting and using  HD multipoint products like Vidyo,” stated Derek Kuhn, Vice President, Emerging Technology and Media, Alcatel-Lucent and founding member of the ng Connect Program. “As they become available, 4G/LTE networks will provide an ideal platform for next generation video services by providing the capacity and QoS needed to ensure a rich user experience. We welcome Vidyo to the ng Connect Program and look forward to collaborating with them.”
