Vidyo Joins Int el in First Demonstration of  Transcoding-less Videoconference Across a Smartphone, Tablet, Desktop, In-vehicle Infotainment and Telepresence System

TAIPEI, TAIWAN- COMPUTEX- JUNE 1, 2010 – Vidyo® Inc., the first company to deliver personal telepresence, was featured today during Intel’s keynote at Computex with David (Dadi) Perlmutter, executive vice president and co-general manager, Intel Architecture Group. The demonstration showcases Vidyo’s ability to integrate HD multipoint videoconferencing seamlessly across multiple compute products and devices using Intel® processors, including the new  Atom™  Z6xx based platform (formerly known as “Moorestown”), and the all new 2010  Intel® Core™ processor family , over the public Internet and wireless networks.

Intel demonstrated a business quality, multiparty videoconference over a wireless network highlighting the unique advantages of the three spatial layers of the VidyoTechnology™ H.264 SVC codec capability, enabling the architecture to connect devices ranging in performance, from telepresence rooms to smartphones, without transcoding. The demo featured a high-end VidyoRoom HD-220 encoding 1080p connected via a general purpose IP network to a VidyoRouter™, with each device in the conference, including the smartphone, only receiving the resolution it can render. With Vidyo’s innovative approach, bandwidth is conserved and since there is no transcoding in the network, interaction is natural because no latency is introduced. Other devices that were connected to the conference included a tablet, an in-vehicle infotainment system, a netbook and a laptop computer, demonstrating that Vidyo performs across a range of computing products and devices.

“Vidyo is pleased to partner with Intel on a breakthrough demonstration at Computex, extending VidyoConferencing on desktops and telepresence systems to full integration with handheld and telematic devices,” said Ofer Shapiro, CEO and co-founder of Vidyo, Inc. “Multipoint videoconferencing, with this range of devices requires new capabilities to deliver business quality video for smartphones and tablets. Vidyo and Intel are working together to ensure VidyoConferencing will perform across a range of  Intel Architecture-based platforms and a variety of software platforms including  Windows, Mac OS, MeeGo and Android operating systems.”

“Consumers want access to their content across the range of devices that they interact with on a daily basis,” said Pankaj Kedia, director of global ecosystem programs in Intel Corporation’s Ultra Mobility Group. “From smartphones to PCs, Intel’s vision is to provide a seamless cross-device experience through common hardware, software and ecosystem solutions. The video conferencing capability, based on Vidyo’s technologies, is an innovative solution that can scale across a range of device segments and software environments.”

VidyoTechnology uses off-the-shelf Intel Architecture-based platforms enabling it to take advantage of faster, intelligent multi-core technology, advancing the price to performance profile of its video conferencing solutions at the same pace as the PC world. The Vidyo architecture is the only multipoint videoconferencing SDK that does not transcode, yet delivers rate matching without adding latency. It does so over general purpose networks because it is highly error-resilient, delivering video communication that can be delivered through 3G, 4G, WiMAX and LTE networks.
